First of all, this electric all-wheel-drive system is more energy efficient and therefore more eco-friendly. In the case of the 2020 Prius, we’re talking about a combined fuel consumption of 4.7 L/100 km.

With this new traction, you’ll have a greater sense of security and better traction on the driver’s side. What’s more, this traction is great and doesn’t require a centre differential, a torque divider or a front/rear drive shaft. In fact, the 2020 Prius uses a magnet-less independent electric motor, a first for Toyota Canada, which drives the rear wheels from 0 to 10 km/h and then, when the situation requires it, up to 70 km/h. This all-new system provides the rear wheels with the required power when you start, drive or stop. What’s even more exciting is that the system recognizes when all-wheel drive is not required, resulting in fuel economy. It’s already estimated that electric all-wheel drive will account for 65 percent of all future Prius sales.

A noteworthy Japanese ingenuity is the introduction of the 2020 Prius AWD-e as the basic technological standard with an upgraded powertrain and technology package. The new Prius also uses a new, more compact Nickel-Metal Hydride (Ni-MH) battery pack, this time with excellent winter performance and increased durability.

Like all other models in the lineup, the Prius AWD-e benefits from the hybrid synergy system, combining a 1.8-litre 4-cylinder engine with two electric motor generators with continuously variable transmission. The 2020 all-new Prius is quiet and efficient. It also meets high environmental and air quality standards.

The size of these hybrids remains unchanged, as does its cargo capacity, which is 1855 litres when the rear seats are folded down in its 60/40 configuration. For sports enthusiasts, the 2020 Prius is available with rear crossbars that allow you to easily transport larger accessories, such as a bicycle, water skis or a kayak.
