The Japanese manufacturer Toyota has been a forerunner in hybrid vehicles since 1997 with its famous Prius; it’s been on the rise ever since, and the list of hybrid vehicles is only getting longer. The new 2021 Toyota Sienna and 2021 Toyota Venza will be hybrids, high-performance and luxurious.
Sherbrooke Toyota, in the heart of the Eastern Townships, near Lennoxville and Forestville, will tell you about the Japanese manufacturer’s technological advances and its two new models in the showroom starting this fall.
First of all, the 2021 Toyota Venza Hybrid will be a mid-size crossover that can accommodate five passengers comfortably seated with plenty of legroom; it’s sleeker than previous versions. The new model was assembled on the Toyota TNGA-K platform, the same one used to assemble the Toyota Camry and Highlander. As the Japanese automaker is used to offering a lot of models, the new Venza will be available in LE, XLE and Limited trim levels.
This hybrid SUV will be an all-wheel-drive vehicle; the gas engine and the first two electric motors will power the front wheels, while the independent electric motor will provide traction to the rear wheels if needed. In total, 80 percent of the power can be sent to the rear wheels when needed, especially to prevent front wheels from spinning during acceleration. This all-wheel drive system will also provide greater stability on the road, as well as better cornering.
Hence, for the first time the Venza will be able to count on a powerful, high-performance hybrid powertrain. Indeed, the 2021 Venza will be offered with a four-cylinder 2.5-liter gasoline-powered hybrid engine and three electric motors. The 2021 Venza will develop a total of 219 horsepower, and fuel consumption is expected to be 5.9 L/100 km. It’s far more powerful than the 182 horsepower of the Venza’s previous 2.7-litre four-cylinder engine, but less than the 268 horsepower of the 3.5-litre V6 in the more affluent versions. Nonetheless, this spectacular advance announced by Toyota Canada shows that the Japanese manufacturer is continuing to move towards hybridization and electrification of its vehicles. What’s more, the hybrid system of the 2021 new Toyota Venza adopts an even more powerful lithium-ion battery with its three electric motors as well.
The interior of the all-new Venza is majestic. Toyota has decided to play the techno card with an infotainment system that includes a large 12.3-inch touch screen mounted in the centre of the dashboard for Premium models and an 8-inch screen for base models. Compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is, this time, assured for all versions of the 2021 Venza, in addition to Bluetooth, USB ports and voice control.
The ideal and versatile van for families who travel extensively will also be a hybrid in 2021. Thus, the 2021 Sienna is keeping up with the latest technology by offering hybridization. It offers the same engine as the 2020 Toyota Highlander, a 2.5-litre four-cylinder with 243 horsepower. Built on the TNGA-K platform, not only does it allow hybridization, but it’s also standard on all models in the Sienna lineup.
Toyota claims that the estimated fuel consumption will be 7.1 L/100 km, and the Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid will have company! Two others are worthy of note. Thanks to the addition of an electric motor in the rear, all-wheel drive will be available on all versions. Toyota also offers a maximum towing capacity of 1,587 kilograms (3,500 pounds), in line with the top average for the segment.
Finally, the 2021 Sienna’s styling has been revised and offers more dynamism through a very large grille, mounted headlights and the integration of chrome accents. The interior is luxurious and comfortable, and the presentation is much sleeker. All in all, the 2021 Toyota Sienna is ready for the big adventure, because depending on the version, the Sienna can now be equipped with reclining seats, a refrigerator and a vacuum cleaner, as is the case with the Honda Odyssey.
